Bafa Lake is surrounded by the Latmos Mountains. Located at the beginning of the Latmic Bay, Heraclia was named Latmus at its head, reaching the height of 1300 meters above sea level, taking the name of the impressive mountain.
At the beginning of the Gulf, Heraclia became an important city away from the popular trade route from Ephesus to Didim - Miletus and Priene. This mystical mountains is the perfect area for avid hiking and trekking tours. 700 A.D exudes and the monks left traces on these remote mountain slopes. Byzantine monasteries and marble caves are favorite places for sightseeing.
The village of Kapikiri is built on the ruins of the ancient city of Heraklia, and today's houses are in many cases directly based on old foundations. Stones from the surrounding ruins were used to build new houses, walls, streets and property areas. Although Heraclia was found in Ionia, Heraclia was a characteristic Carian city and its history was created by Caria events.
