Bafa Lake is surrounded by the Latmos Mountains. Located at the beginning of the Latmic Bay, Heraclia was named Latmus at its head, reaching the height of 1300 meters above sea level, taking the name of the impressive mountain.
At the beginning of the Gulf, Heraclia became an important city away from the popular trade route from Ephesus to Didim - Miletus and Priene.
